Hubby and I had a random idea of going to upstate New York to go hiking at one of the state parks. We were only 35 miles outside of the city, but it felt like we were an entire world away! After searching for a fast-food restaurant that was nowhere to be found, we ended up having lunch at the Mountain House - a very local spot, but well worth it! After lunch, we made our way to Harriman State Park. The Park is situated on Bear Mountain and has 31 lakes and reservoirs, as well as 200 miles of hiking. It is absolutely beautiful! We immediately came across two beautiful deer (and one more on our way out) - my heart just melted at how peaceful they looked. The first one was eating grass inches away from me! And of course, it's not a trip to a park unless you see ducks! The ducks we saw were actually crossing the street...too cute! The natural lakes were so nice and the water was so clean and clear. It's amazing how all of this can be found right outside the hustle and bustle of NYC. There was a wonderful sense of calm at the park and I'm sure we will be back again.
